Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the clutter in your home and life? I certainly have. When Marie Kondo's book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up," came into my life, I was a busy working mum overwhelmed with stuff, and it was exactly what I needed! This book has been a game-changer for countless people, including myself, and here are a few reasons why...


More mindful and present: A key principle of the method is to be mindful and connected when tidying. This involves paying attention to your belongings and making intentional decisions about what to keep and what to discard. I found that this process helped me be mindful in other areas of my life, such as with my family, friends, and with the kind of work I choose to do. It’s important to me to be as present as possible in my own life, and this has helped me be true to that.

Improved mental health: Tidying up can have a positive impact on mental health, as it can reduce stress and anxiety. I definitely felt a renewed sense of calm and inner peace after tidying up my home. There's less visual clutter for sure but less to do, worry about, and life just feels lighter.

More meaningful possessions: The KonMari method encourages people to keep only the possessions that bring them joy. By focusing on what truly makes you happy, you are surrounded by more meaningful possessions that reflect your values and passions. I used Marie Kondo's method of holding each item and asking myself if it brought me joy. If it didn't, I thanked it and let it go. This inspired me to let go of two-thirds of my clothes and 10 carloads of stuff!

Better relationships: Tidying up can also have a positive impact on relationships. By tidying your belongings and living spaces, you are better able to communicate with partners and family members; there's less in the way and lines of communication are clearer. In addition, the KonMari method emphasizes gratitude, which can help foster a sense of appreciation and respect for others. After tidying our home and lives, everyone feels happier!
